#1 Beats #2 In Overtime

January 15, 2012 by Ray Alley

#1 Beats #2 In Overtime.

The #1 ranked Maryland Terrapins got a break in the 89th minute of regulation when UNC junior Rob Lovejoy failed to convert a game-winning penalty kick. The Terps then scored the game-winner in overtime on a goal by freshman Schillo Tshuma for a 1-0 ACC vistory. The Terps remain unbeaten at 13-0-1 and 6-0-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Tshuma, a midfielder who grew up in Zimbabwe before going to high school in Northern Virginia, redirected a shot by leading scorer Patrick Mullins in the 99th minute to give Maryland its 12th straight victory. The second-ranked Tar Heels, defending Division I men’s national champions, fell to 11-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference.
