Belmont Abbey junior midfielder Silvia Vazquez scored the only goal of the game with one second left in the first half to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead over Pfeiffer University in the Conference Carolinas women’s final.
At that point the Crusaders defense took over to seal the victory and give Belmont Abbey the 1-0 win and the school’s seventh conference championship.
Belmont Abbey (11-9-1) moved on to the NCAA D-III tournament for the sixth time. Pfeiffer’s season ended with a 10-7-3 record.
