University of Georgia assistant coach Robin Confer (Clearwater, Fla.) has been named the new head coach at the University of North Florida where she replaces Linda Hamilton. Confer, a collegiate All-America for the UNC Tar Heels, had been on the Georgia staff for nine years. She played in 107 games for UNC, which is an NCAA career record. Previously she was an assistant at UNC, Florida State, Mississippi State and Texas A&M. She [show_disconnected][show_to accesslevel=’Subscriber’]was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) 50th Anniversary Women’s Soccer team recognizing the league’s Top 50 players….Florida State’s Kassey Kallman is one of our finalists for the Honda Sports Award, joining Morgan Brian (Virginia), Abby Dehkemper (UCLA) and Crystal Dunn (UNC). The Honda Sports Award is presented annually to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports. Three Florida State Seminoles were called into national team camps in December. Kallman and Kelsey Wys (Coral Springs, Fla.) were called into camp with the U-23 team, while Nickolette Driesse participated wth the U-20 WNT……All USSF National A/B/C coaching license courses. scheduled for Jan. 4-12 in Bradenton FL, were sold out in December. The Jan. 20-28 National “A” Renewal is also sold out. Registration is still open for the National Goalkeeper License Course in Bradenton, Feb. 2-9. The next National “A” License Course in Florida will be April 5-13 in Vero Beach. Information on all USSF courses is available online at www.ussoccer.com….Former FIU soccer standouts Thaisa Moreno and Mayara Bordin recently were part of Brazil’s Women’s National Team that won the International Tournament of Braizila. It was Moreno’s third time playing for the Brazil WNT and fourth for Bordin. The four-nation tournament included Canada, Scotland, Chile and Brazil. Moreno scored in a 2-0 win over Chile…..Dom Dwyer had a magical double in 2013. First he set the NASL on fire with 15 goals before being recalled by Sporting Kansas City. He returned for the NASL championship game, scoring four goals in Orlando City’s championship win. He returned to KC where he helped his MLS team win the MLS Cup title. What a year!
