New Accusations
Emerge Against
Ex-Soccer Coach.
Rowan County authorities say two more people have accused former Catawba College soccer coach Ralph Wager of inappropriate sexual conduct.
The Salisbury Post reported that one of the new accusers was the son of a Catawba employee. The other had attended a soccer camp on the college campus in the 1980s and accused the coach of “inappropriate” massages, the newspaper reported.
Wager was arrested in July after authorities say a man accused the coach of inappropriate conduct during the late 1980s. The accuser, who was between the age of nine and 11 at the time of the reported incidents, was participating in another sports program at the college, officials have said.
Wager was Catawba’s soccer coach from 1983 until he resigned in 1990. At the time, he cited health and personal reasons for his departure, but prosecutors have said that Wager left after being confronted with abuse claims.
Catawba College officials have said the school is cooperating with authorities and would conduct its own probe.
