Panthers Take First Loss

January 15, 2012 by Ray Alley

Panthers Take First Loss.

High Point University was one of the last three undefeated Division I men’s soccer teams when the Panthers arrived in Charlottesville for a non-conference meeting with the University of Virginia Cavaliers. HPU, ranked #23 nationally, almost left Charlottesville unbeaten, but all that went away in the 88th minute when Will Bates slotted home a penalty kick for a 2-1 Virginia victory. The loss was the first for HPU (10-0-1) since Oct. 25, 2011, ending an undefeated streak of 16 straight games.
After a double-overtime victory over Gardner-Webb at home, the Panthers took their second loss of the season at Campbell University, falling 2-1 to the Camels. The loss dropped High Point to 4-1-1 in Big South Conference play, while Campbell is now 4-3-0.
