RedHawks Sofer Honored.
Martin Methodist midfielder Daniel Sofer has been named the TranSouth Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Sofer, a 5-foot-6 senior from Hadera, Israel, scored two goals in a come-from-behind, double-overtime 2-1 victory over #20 William Carey University.
After pulling the RedHawks level with a goal at the 63:03 mark, Sofer lifted the RedHawks to victory with her goal four minutes into the second period. Sofer finished with eight shots – four on goal – in a 2-0 week for the RedHawks, who defeated Cumberland University 2-1.
The #11 ranked Red Hawks, without five regular starters, were upset 2-1 in overtime to Davenport (Mich.) University.
In the overtime period, the Panthers would strike for the match-winning goal when Davenport’s Paige Eli sent a powerful shot into the bottom left corner.
“It was a disappointing afternoon for us,” RedHawks head coach Tyson John. “We made too many mistakes against a very good team and we paid the price. Our lack of depth definitely hurt, but you have to give Davenport all the credit.”
As a team, the RedHawks were unable to capitalize on an 11-10 shot advantage.
The loss left the RedHawks6-3-0 overall for the year.
