Coastal Carolina junior forward Kacey Kelley (Ashburn, Va.) has been named the Big South Conference Attacking Player of the Week, while Liberty defender Maddie Boone was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week. Kelley had three goals and an assist in helping Coastal to a pair of wins over Campbell and UNC Asheville. Boone, a junior from Nicholasville, Ky., was instrumental in holding VMI and Gardner-Webb to eight total shots in two games….Sam Patterson (Jacksonville, Fla.) first-half goal, was the difference as the Coastal Carolina women handed Radford its first loss of the season. That snapped Radford’s 25-game unbeaten streak against Big South teams…..Furman freshman Bobby Edet had goal and an assist to lead the Furman Paladins to wins over a pair of ranked opponents. Edet assisted on Furman’s first goal in a 2-1 win over #9 Clemson, and scored the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over #25 Elon. He was named Southern Conference Player of the Week. Four of Edet’s seven goals this season have been game-winners….Citadel forward Nicole Levermann (Braunfels, TX) scored three goals in a weekend sweep of road matches at Samford and Chattanooga. She had the first two goals in the 3-2 win over then-league-leading Samford, giving the Bulldogs first-ever win over Samford……Furman improved to 10-1-1 in is last 12 matches with a 1-0 win over Western Carolina and a 0-0 draw with Appalachian State. Rose Hull (Brentwood, Tenn.) recorded shutouts in both games, dropping her goals against average to 0.40…..The Seattle Sounders will make their first appearance in the Carolina Challenge Cup at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC, Feb. 22-March 1, 2014. Returning will be the current U.S. Open Cup champions D.C. United, MLS’s Houston Dynamo and the host Charleston Battery…..Former T.L. Hannna standout Chelsea Drenan tied a school record with three assists to help the South Carolina Gamecocks to a 4-1 win over Vanderbilt.
