Felicia Schroaeder, who played two seasons of collegiate soccer at the University of South Carolina, has been named US Soccer’s 2012 Disabled Athlete of the Year. Schroaeder, who transferred to Purdue for her last two years, graduating in 2009, helped the USA to a gold medal at the World Deaf Football Championships in July, scoring four goals during the tournament in Turkey. She also plays professionally with Kvarnsveden in the Sweden First Division…..Sebastian Velasquez, the first junior college player drafted by a Major League Soccer team in the past six years, played in nine regular season games for Real Salt Lake, starting five of them. Velasquez, who played for two seasons at Spartanburg Methodist College, logged 403 minutes. Velasquez, born in Colombia, played youth soccer with Greenville Futbol Club, St. Giles Futbol Club, Carolina Elite Soccer Association and finally Discoveries SC in Rock Hill, SC…..The Central S.C. Cobras is a finalist for the 2012 USL W-League Rookie Franchise of the Year award with the VSI Tampa Flames….Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo have committed to play in the 2013 Carolina Challenge Cup to be held at Blackbaud Stadium, Charleston, S.C., February 16-23, 2013.
