U.S. Soccer referee Kari Seitz, 42, the most decorated and experienced international referee in U.S. Soccer history worked the middle of the U.S. WNT’s 4-0 victory over Australia, Oct. 20, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX. It was her final game, as she retired from a 28-year career as a referee, which started when she was 14 years old. Seitz has worked matches in four FIFA Women’s World Cups (1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011) and three Olympic Games. Seitz, a native of Brighton, Mich. is the only referee to officiate in three different regional champion- ships, working confederation tournaments in CONCACAF, Europe and Asia…..Christen Press, who scored the fourth goal in the USA’s 4-0 win over Australia, scored a pair of goals against her old club to give her a league-leading 23 goals in 21 games as Tyresco beat Gothenburg FC, 4-0. She finished the season as the Gold Boot winner in the Swed- ish professional league……In France, American forward Lindsey Horan
scored a pair of goals in Paris St. Germain’s 3-0 win over Arras, while U.S. WNT midfielder Megan Rapinoe scored her first goal for Lyon, which remained perfect at 6-0-0 with a 5-1 win at St. Etienne….U.S. WNT captain Chrisitie Rampone did not suite up for the USA against Australia, as she continues to recover from minor knee surgery. With Rampone out of the match, Becky Sauerbrunn and Whitney Engen started together in the center of the defense for just the second time…..Abby Wambach set another all-time U.S. WNT scoring record when she scored the third goal against the Aussies. That gave her 162 career goals. Everytime she scores she extends her record. It marked the 103 win for the USA when Wambach scores at least one goal (103-2-8)…..Brian Ching, who grew up playing soccer in Hawaii, has announced that officially, the 2013 MLS season with the Houston Dynamo will be his last as a player. Ching, 35, holds the Dynamo team record with 69 goals, and he was instrumental in Houston’s 2006 and 2007 MLS Cup championships. A testimonial match, featuring current and former Dynamo players, as well as several from the U.S. MNT, will be held at BBVA Compass Stadium on Dec. 13. Ching earned 45 international caps with the U.S. senior men’s team, scoring 11 goals from 2003-2010…..FC Dallas has an- nounced that head coach Schellas Hyndman, who led the club to its only MLS Cup appearance in franchise his- tory in 2010, will step down at the end oftheseason. Hyndmanamasseda62- 57-58 record in his five seasons as head coach after taking over midway through the 2008 season and was named MLS Coach of the Year in 2010. His 62 wins is the club’s all-time coaching record. Before joining FC Dallas, Hyndman spent 31 seasons as a college head
coach, including 24 at nearby Southern Methodist University. He ranks #5 all-time in victories among Division I coaches, posting an all-time college record of 466-122-49….Inactivity may cost Brek Shea a shot at making the 2014 World Cup roster for the USA. Shea knows it and is seeking at least a short-term loan from EPL Stoke City to a lower division Championship. Shea has played in only one league match for Stoke City since Mark Hughes took over as manager. He needs to play in order to be match fit for future consideration by U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann. Derby County has been mentioned as a possible loan destination…..Former U.S. WNT legend Krinstine Lilly was inducted into the US Youth Soccer Region I Hall of Fame, along with former Eastern NY Youth Soccer President Peter Masotto. Lilly, who played collegiate soccer at UNC, finished her national team career with a record 352 international appearances, scoring 130 international goals….D.C.
United lost the last game on it’s 2013 MLS regular season schedule, falling 2-1 to the Houston Dynamo at RFK Stadium. It will be a memo- rable loss in a forgetable season as it left Ben Olsen’s team with only three wins all season long and a 3-24-7 record. They did not win a single game on the road. Olsen has another year left on his contract, and is expected to be back as head coach in 2014. D.C. United did win the 2013 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
