Ching, 35, will be responsible for the day-to-day business operation and technical side of the club….U.S. MNT defender Jonathan Bornstein, who played in only nine games over the last three seasons, has left Tigres, the Monterrey club in the Mexican League and signed with 2014 Torneo Clausura located in Cancun. Bornstein was a member of the U.S. 2010 World Cup team….Former Chicago Fire coach Frank Klopas has become the sixth coach in six years with the Montreal Impact……Dwayne De Rosario, former MLS MVP is back in his hometown of Toronto after being selected by the club in the recent MLS Re-Entry Draft……U.S. MNT striker Aron Johannsson, born in Mobile, Ala., scored a pair of goals as defending champion AZ beat Heerenveen, 6-5 in a shootout after a 2-2 draw in the Dutch Cup. That gave the Icelandic-American 17 goals in all competitions last season……Vancouver Whitecaps, after being unable to hire former U.S. MNT coach Bob Bradley, named assistant Carl Robinson to the club’s position of head coach. Also, Frank Yallop, a Vancouver native, who was on the Whitecaps list of coaching candidates, accepted the head coaching position with the Chicago Fire while Vancouver decided on who to hire….Seattle was active in December picking up Swiss goalkeeper Stefan Frei from Toronto FC, received defender Chad Marshall from the Columbus Crew. The Sounders also added forward Kenny Cooper. Seattle will be Cooper’s fourth MLS club in four years…The new England Revolution has re-signed former Duke University defender Darrius Barnes, who is entering his sixth season as a professional. The Revs also re-signed 2013 MLS Comeback Player of the Year Kevin Alston, who returned to the field in July after leaving the club in April to start treatment for Chronic myelogenous Leukemia (CML)….The NSCAA will honor three with Special Award honors at the convention in Philadelphia. The Mike Berticelli Excellence in Coaching Education will go to Kim Sutton (Cal State University, Chico). Kristine Lilly will receive the Women’s Committee Award of Excellence, sponsored by Washington Area Girls Soccer (WAGS). The Jerry Yeagley Award for Exceptional Achievement will be presented to Lorrie Fair, who has represented the U.S. State Department and the United Nations on a number of trips abroad, giving clinics to disadvantaged youth. Lilly and Fair both played collegiate soccer at UNC Chapel Hill and for the U.S. Women’s National Team …..After struggling to get on the field with Stoke City FC, American winger Brek Shea has been moved to Barnsley of the English Championship for a 28-day loan. He should provide offense to Barnsley, which is last in the Championship, having scored only 20 goals in 22 games…..Paul Riley has been hired as the new head coach of the defending NWSL champion Portland Thorns, replacing Cindy Parlow-Cone, who resigned for personal reasons. Riley coached the Philadelphia Independence in the now-defunct WPS league.
