UNC Knocks Off BYU In PKs
The UNC Tar Heels and Florida State Seminoles are off to the “Big Dance”, having advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division I College Cup.
The Duke Blue Devils, who lost in the championship game a year ago, came up short, dropping a quarterfinal game to Penn State. The fourth semifinalist is defending national champion Stanford, which got by California rival UCLA in the other quarterfinal game.
For the Tar Heels, it marks their first College Cup appearance since 2009. UNC is set to play top-seeded Stanford at the University of San Diego’s Torero Stadium. Penn State and Florida State will meet in the other semifinal.
It may have been awhile since Carolina was in the College Cup, but the experience is nothing new for the program, which has 20 NCAA women’s national championship trophies in the athletic trophy case.
