Earle Davidson, the only men’s soccer head coach in the NCAA era for the Belmont Bruins’ has resigned his position. He has directed the Belmont program since 1997, but was 6-10-2 overall this fall….. Steve Springthorpe, former women’s head soccer coach at N.C. State University, has accepted the head coaching position at Tennessee Tech University. Spr[show_disconnected][show_to accesslevel=’Subscriber’]ingthorpe spent the past season on the coaching staff at Duke University, training goalkeepers as a Blue Devils’ assistant coach. Springthorpe replaces Daniel Brizard, who resigned in November after coaching the Golden Eagles for four seasons. He posted a 3-15-1 record this past season. Springthorpe coached the N.C. State Wolfpack for four seasons…..East Tennessee State captured its second Atlantic Sun Men’s Soccer Championship with a 3-1 win over North Florida. Donte Brangman scored what would be the eventual game-winner 31 seconds into the second half with his first goal of the season. Nate Hodges, the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year, scored the Bucs’ first half-goal on a 30-yard cracker in the 28th minute of play…..Germantown Houston HS finished the fall season with a Tennessee girls state soccer championship, a 21-0-1 overall record and a #3 national ranking. The two teams ahead of Houston in the final NSCAA poll were also 21-0-1…..The fifth-seeded Lady Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University scored a pair of goals in a three-minute span in the second half to capture a 2-0 win over topseeded and 16th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne in the semifinals of the SAC tournament championship. LMU was eliminated 2-1 by Wingate in the SAC championship game. The game-winner came with 57 seconds left in regulation…..Lee University’s women’s season came to an end in the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Fla., with a 3-0 loss to Dallas Baptist. The Lady Flames finished the season 14-4-2. Senior Leah Fortune (Orlando, Fla.) was named NCCAA Mid-East Region Player of the Year.
