January 15, 2012 by Ray Alley

Tide Rolls Over Gators.

Alabama's Molly Atherton Celebrates

Alabama freshman Katie Bourgeois (Katy, TX) scored a historic goal in the first half and the Crimson Tide played shutout soccer in the second to upset the #11 ranked Florida Gators.

It was the first time in program istory that Alabama had defeated Florida and it was also the highest ranked team the Tide had ever defeated.

With the win, Alabama improved to 8-7-2 overall and 3-6-2 in the SEC. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Tide, and also broke a nine-game winning streak for the Gators.

Bama junior goalkeeper Shelby Church made several key saves in the second half to earn her third shutout of the season.
