Undefeated Green Hope #1.
Green Hope High School lost a number of outstanding seniors from last year’s state championship team, and others who passed up high school soccer this fall, opting to play Academy club soccer.
Still, the Falcons, under first-year head coach Richard Huxford, are undefeated (10-0) and ranked #1 in the N.C. 4-A fall boys soccer poll.
“The first thing coach Huxford said to us is this team has its own identity, senior Josh Kennedy, one of the few returning starters recently told the Cary News. “The only thing it shares with last year’s team is the name Green Hope and we want to represent that as much as possible.”
“This group has really come together, working well together and we’ve gotten off to a great start,” said Huxford. I’m not surprised we’re undefeated, we’ve got a great group of guys and with only four seniors I think we’re set for the future as well.”
Raleigh Sanderson is 13-0 and third in the state poll behind #2 Mt. Tabor.
The top team in the 3A poll is Union County’s Marvin Ridge (9-0-1). Second-ranked Charlotte Catholic is also unbeaten at 7-0-1. Two Onslow County teams, Jacksonville (8-1-0) and White Oak (10-0-0) are ranked third and fourth, respectively.
