Tom Condone has been named the Executive Director of Alabama Soccer. He comes to Alabama from Tennessee, where he was the Executive Director of Tennessee Soccer. Previously, he was the head coach at Spring Hill College, Rutgers University-Newark and Tennessee Wesleyan College, and was named the 2001 NAIA Men’s Region XII Coach of the Year at Wesleyan…..Hoover HS graduate Sarah Story had a national championship season for the Argonauts of the University of West Florida, posting a shutout in the NCAA Division II championship victory over the University of California San Diego. A junior, Story played her freshman season at Ole Miss, starting 15 game and setting a new Ole Miss record for saves in a single season at 109. She transferred to Darton College in Georgia as a sophomore where she saw action in 20 games, allowing just 11 goals for a 0.57 gaa and earning Junior College All-America first team honors. At UWF she was ranked #12 nationally in D-II and first in the Gulf South Conference in goals against average (0.565) with 13.1 shutouts. She allowed three goals in five matches in the NCAA tournament and one goal in the final four matches of the season, all against top-25 teams…..Former Alabama goalkeeper Justine Bernier has signed a one-year deal to play with Klepp IL of the Toppserien, the top level women’s league in Norway. The Canada native broke the Crimson Tide’s career saves and shutout records during her four seasons in Tuscaloosa, and ranks second in wins all-time at the Capstone…..Alabama concluded 2012 with its annual awards banquet. Merel Van Dongen (Netherlands) was recognized as the first Tide player to be named the SEC Freshman of the Year, and was also selected team MVP. Laura Lee Smith (Jackson, MS) was selected Defensive Player of the Year and sophomore Theresa Diederich (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) was named Offensive POY. Birmingham senior Lindsey Sillers received the Coaches Award….Junior Ricky Davey (England) and freshman Pierre Omanga (France) shared Player of the Year honors for the Montevallo men’s team…..Briarwood Christian senior Sara Smeltzer (Birmingham) has been named 2012 NSCAA Girls High School All-America.
