After recently completing her Georgia career this fall, soccer goalkeeper Ashley Baker has signed to play with Lincoln Ladies FC of the FA Women’s Super League (FA-WSL) – the highest level of women’s football in England. Baker has also been called in to the England Senior National team’s January training camp fore the first time in her career. She is one of 24 players who will travel to La Manga, Spain, for training as the team gears up for the 2013 UEFA Women’s Championship. Baker – born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, though she grew up in Lilburn, GA – most recently played with England’s U23 team and competed with the U20s in the Women’s World Cup in both 2008 and 2010…….Three players who graduated from high school last spring have been named to 2012 NSCAA High School All-America teams, along with current Lambert HS senior forward Bakawsu Kinteh (Suwanee) who was on the boys team. Holden Fender (Marietta/Walton HS) was also named to the boys A-A team. Named to the 2012 NSCAA Girls All-America team were midfielders Heather Lacy (Suwanee/Lambert HS) and Gabby Seiler (Peachtree City/McIntosh HS). All four will be honored at the All-America Luncheon at the NSCAA convention in mid-January in Indianapolis …..Two Georgia natives, Walker Zimmerman of Furman and Elon University forward Chris Thomas (Snellville, GA) are expected to be taken early in the first round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. Zimmerman played high school soccer at Brookwood HS, while Thomas, who led the nation in scoring last season with 23 goals and 51 points, played at Greater Atlanta Christian School….Armstrong Atlantic women’s head coach Eric Faulconer has been named the NSCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his career and the fifth time as coach of the Armstrong Pirates….Georgia State junior defender Chris Locandro (Kennesaw, GA) has been named the CAA Scholar-Athlete award winner for 2012. Locandro a neuroscience major, maintains a 3.96 GPA. Locandro has played 3,430 minutes over 38 games during his Georgia State career.
