Scholar All-America POY
Margaret Purce (Our Lady of Good Counsel HS/Olney,MD) and Brandon Hudik (Bordentown Regional HS, NJ) have been selected as the 2012 NSCAA Scholar All-Amrica Player of the Year for girls and boys, respectively.
Purce is a three-time NSCAA All-America selection. She closed out one of the most-decorated careers in Washington, D.C. high school history by scoring 27 goals in 15 games. She finished her career with a school-record 101 goals. She is a member of the U.S. team that won the 2012 CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship in Guatemala and qualified for the 2012 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
She played club soccer for the West Virginia Chaos SC, and has enrolled at the University of Kentucky.
Hudik was named 2012 NSCAA High School All-Americn and All-Region. He earned New Jersey All-State honors for the third consecutive year, and was also named South New Jersey Defender of the Year as a senior.
Dunn, Mullins Win Hermanns
UNC junior midfielder Crystal Dunn (Rockville Centre, NY), Virginia senior forward Caroline Miller (Rockville, MD), and Penn State senior midfielder Christine Nair (Arnold, MD), were the three finalists for the women’s 2012 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy. The men’s Hermann finalists were Maryland junior forward Patrick Mullins (New Orleans, LA), Notre Dame senior forward Ryan Finley (Lumberton, NJ) and Creighton senior midfielder Jose Gomez (Santa Ana, Calif.).
Dunn and Mullins were named the 2012 MAC Hermann Trophy winners at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 11. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer.
Dunn scored four goals in five games in the NCAA tournament, leading the Tar Heels to their 21st NCAA Division I national championship.
Mullins led the Terps and the ACC with team and league high 16 goals and 40 points, along with a career high eight goals. He helped Maryland to the College Cup semifinals. Committed to return to Maryland for his senior season.
Youth Player Of The Year
Jane Campbell and Paul Arriola are the girls and boys NSCAA Youth Player of the Year award winners.
Campbell (Kennesaw, GA/Darlington School), who plays for the Concorde Fire SC, was the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. Under-17 National Team at the 2012 FIFA U-17 World Cup. She has been called up for national training camps at both the U-17 and U-23 levels.
Arriola (Chula Vista , CA), was a member of the U.S. Under-17 National team. Plays for Alta Loma’s Arsenal FC Developmental Academy. He started three games for the U.S. in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico.
High School Player of the Year
The National High School Player of the Year for boys is midfielder Ema Boateng (Carpinteria, Cal./Cate School), while the girls high school POY is New Hampshire senior midfielder Morgan Andrews (Milford/Milford HS).
Boateng, considered to be the most dominant player in Southern California soccer, finished his high school career with 32 goals and 20 assists, and was a freshman this past season at UC Santa Barbara. He was also the Gatorade National Boys High School Player of the Year (2011-2012).
Andrews is the captain of the U.S. Under-17 Women’s World Cup team.
Scholar Player of the Year
The College Scholar All-America Player of the Year for men is Akron senior Scott Caldwell, a Hermann Trophy semifinalist and Mid-American Conference Player of the Year. He has a 3.94 GPA as an accounting major.
Ashley Botts (Beloit, Wis.), a senior at Grand Valley State is the 2012 College Scholar All-America Player of the Year for women. She earned first team NSCAA All-America as a senior when starting 23 of 25 games played for Grand Valley State. Led team in scoring with 41 points off of 18 goals and five assists. Biomedical Sciences major.
Youth Regional COY
Four youth coaches have been named NSCAA Regional Youth Coach of the Year recipients, and are candidates for National Coach of the Year, which will be announced at the convention in Kansas City.
Russell Shelley, Carolina Elite Soccer Academy (Greenville, SC) is the South’s regional winner, while Brian Rigby, FC United Soccer Club (Chicago, IL) is the Central winner.
The Midwest Regional winner is Huw Williams, Kansas City Football Club (Overland Park, KS). The winner of the West region is James Obleda, Fullerton Rangers (Orange, CA)
High School All-America
Lauren Bohaboy (Santa Margarita Catholic High School/Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Ashley Spivey (McDonough School/Baltimore, Md.) both have earned honors for the third consecutive year with the announcement of the 2011 NSCAA Girls High School All-America Team.
Twelve other girls earned their second All-America selection.
On the boys side five seniors earned All-American honors for the second consecutive year.
Earning their second selection to the team are: goalkeeper Andrew Harris (Gilman School/Baltimore, Md.), midfielder Sanford Spivey (Santa Barbara/Santa Barbara, Calif.) and forwards Donovan Fraser (Half Hollow Hills West/Dix Hills, N.Y.), Michael Gamble (McDonough School/Owings Mills, Md.) and Drew White (Camas/Camas, Wash.)
