NSCAA Awards To Be Presidented at Annual Banquet.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America will honor three individuals at the Friday night Awards Banquet during the NSCAA convention with Long Term Service Awards.
For his long term service to youth soccer, NSCAA Hall of Famer Bob Gansler has been named the recipient of the Charlotte Moran Award.
Jeff Farnsworth of Spencerport HS (NY) will be recognized for his work within the high school soccer ranks by being named the Robert W. Robinson Award recipient.
The 2012 Bill Jeffrey Award, which recognizes long term service to college soccer, will be presented to Manny Schellscheidt, former Seton Hall men’s soccer coach.
Gansler played 25 times as a defender for the U.S. Natioinal Tam in Pan American, Olympic and World Cup qualifying games in the 1960s.
He has coached at all levels, from Marquette University High School to the U.S. Men’s Nationl team. He is also the former head coach of MLS’s Kansas City Wizards and Toronto FC.
Farnsworth spent more than 15 years coaching at Spencer-
port High School, both as an assistant and head varsity coach. He also served as a New York State Olympic Development coach, Empire State Games coach and an assistant coach at Roberts Wesleyan College (NY).
He also served for 20 years as the NSCAA Awards Manager and chair of the Awards Committee, retiring from those duties after the 2012 Convention. Farnsworth has been inducted into three New York high school Hall of Fames.
Schellscheidt emigrated from his native Germany to America in the 1970s to become a successful soccer player and coach. During his playing years, he played on teams that won two National Challenge Cups and one American League Soccer title.
He was the head men’s coach at Seton Hall from 1988-2011, and led teams to a pair of BIG EAST championsips, eight NCAA tournament berths and a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16. Schellscheidt was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1990.
Kerrigan Receives Berticelli Award
Laura Kerrigan, a member of the NSCAA National Academy Staff, will receive the Mike Berticelli Excellence in Coaching Education award at the banquet.
Kerrigan, currently head girls coach and teacher at Cary High School (NC) was an All-American player and a 4.0 GPA student at N.C. State from 1985-88. She established program records for shots (228), goals scored (53) and total points (135).
Prior to taking the position at Cary HS, Kerrigan spent eight seasons at her alma mater as the Wolfpack’s head coach.
Women’s Committee Award Of Excellence
University of Wshington’s head women’s coach Lesle Gallimore will receive the Women’s Committee Award of Excellence at Saturday’s Women’s Breakfast during the convention in Indianapolis. The award is sponsored by Washington Area Girls Soccer (WAGS).
Gallimore, the longest-tenured coach in the Pac-12, just finished her 19th season as the Huskies’ women’s coach. She took her team to the NCAA tournament for the 12th time, finishing the year 10-8-3. She has been a NSCAA National Academy coach since 1995.
Walls To Receive Jerry Yeagley Award
Former Centre College (KY) women’s player Heather Walls will accept the Jerry Yeagley Award for Exceptional Personal Achievement at the NSCAA All-America Luncheon on Saturday afternoon.
Walls was a four-year member of the Centre College women’s team, and despite not playing many minutes, she inspired her teammates with a relentless attitude, drive and determination. She also participated in numerous extracurricular activities and outreach programs.
