UNC’s Lopez Going To MLS

January 15, 2013 by Ray Alley

UNC’s Lopez Going To MLS.

North Carolina sophomore Mike Lopez has become the eighth Tar Heel to sign a Generation adidas contract with Major League Soccer.
Lopez leaves UNC after two years in which he played 46 matches and helped the Tar Heels to their second national title during his freshman year in 2011.
Lopez, a native of Mission, TX, has been projected to go early in the MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 17 in Indianapolis.
A Generation adidas signing does not count against the MLS senior roster.
The first UNC Generation adidas signee was Tim Sahaydak in 1997.
