Lynchburg’s Katie Cousins, a 1996 Virginia ODP player, was selected to the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team’s trip to the 12 Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain, in early March.
Cousins, is a 16-year-old who plays club soccer for the Richmond Kickers U17 Girls Elite Team. She played the second half in the USA’s 1-1 draw with Norway, and started and played the first half in a 3-0 loss to Germany.
She came on as a second half sub midway through the second half in a scoreless draw with Sweden in the final game of the trip.
“It is highly unusual and a tremendous accomplishment for a 16-year old, after only one U18 training camp, to get called into the U20s,” said VYSA Technical Director Gordon Miller. “She played well for Virginia and the Region I team in very event leading up to this point.
“So it’s no surprise to hear that she must have performed extremely well.”
Cousins, who moved from Columbia, SC, to Lynchburg at age 11, previously played in Germany in 2011 and France in 2012 with her ODP team.
