U.S. veteran midfielder Carli Lloyd suffered a non-displaced greater tuberosity fracture of the left shoulder during the USA’s opening match of the 2013 Algarve Cup in Portugal. She suffered the injury during the second half of the USA’s opening victory over Iceland.
Lloyd, allocated to Western New York Flash of the new National Women’s Soccer League, will be out of action for approximately 6-8 weeks She will not need surgery.
Her injury comes following U.S. backup goalkeeper Jill Loyden suffering a broken bone in her left hand during Algarve Cup training. Loyden, allocated to Sky Blue FC of the NWSL, will miss at least half of the league’s regular season.
Already out of action is U.S. starting goalkeeper Hope Solo, who had surgery on her left wrist that will keep her on the sidelines for 3-4 months. She had been scheduled to play for the Seattle Reign.
