The Tennessee State Soccer Association has presented the following annual awards. Boys Competitive Coach of the Year – Carl Schmitt (Mid-South Futbol Club), Girls Competitive Coach of the Year – Laban DeFriese (Tennessee Soccer Club), Recreation Coach of the Year – Dave Cleary, TOPS Buddy of the Year – Jed Holstine (US Youth National Award Finalist), Publix Volunteer of the Year – Sandy Martin, 2012 Female Youth Referee Year – Regan Sheen, 2012 Male Youth Referee Year – Donovan Eubank, 2011 Male Youth Referee Year – Walt Heatherly……Vanderbilt head coach Derek Greene’s recruiting class for the fall of 2013 includes forward Simone Charley (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park), defender Laura Foster (Knoxville, Tenn./Christian Academy of Knoxville), forward Sasha Gray (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown), defender Krystina Iordanou (Upper Brookville, N.Y./Friends Academy) and goalkeeper Olivia Liebman (Austin, Texas/St. Andrew’s Episcopal)….Tennessee Lady Vols’ Hannah Wilkinson scored the game-winner for New Zealand to lift the Football Ferns to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Switzerland to take third place in the 2013 Cyprus Women’s Cup. Wilkinson also scored in a 2-0 win over Italy. Former Tennessee standout Rhian Wilkinson, a national team veteran, started every game for Canada, which played England in the Cyprus Cup’s title game. England won 1-0. Also starting for Canada in the Cyprus Cup was Christabel Oduro, a junior forward from the University of Memphis….University of Memphis women’s soccer coach Brooks Monaghan has announced that Ginesha Pickersgill of Navarro College (Texas) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the program for the 2013-14 season. She is a native of Kingston, Jamaica. Memphis also signed Jamaica U-20 star Nugene Nugent….Lee University women’s coach Matt Yelton has signed four players for the fall of 2013, including Summer Lanter (Soddy-Daisy, TN), a three-time all-state forward.
