Charleston Rebounds From Kickers Loss
Opening the season on the road in Richmond didn’t work out so well for the Charleston Battery. The Kickers got the best of the 2013 opening game, winning 4-1.
However, the home opener was a different story as the Battery bounced back with a 4-0 shutout at Blackbaud Stadium before a crowd of 4,546 fans.

Ben Fisk, who arrived during the week on a season-long loan from the Vancouver Whitecaps of MLS, assisted on the first goal, which was scored by Heviel Cordoves in the 21st minute. Fisk scored the second goal two minutes later.
Dane Kelly and Zach Prince completed the scoring with second-half goals.
Fisk, a midfielder from the Whitecaps FC Residency program, was loaned to the Battery along with defender/MF Emmanuel Adjetey.
“Ben has been one of the top young players we have had come through our Residency program and Emmanuel is a raw talent who we are interested in seeing further development,” said Martin Rennie, Whitecaps FC head coach.
“Playing minutes is vital for both of these young players. They are in a great environment with the Charleston Battery, so we’re really excited to see how they progress.”
Previously, the Battery had agreed to terms with Michael Azira and defender Quinton Griffith. Azira, a native of Uganda, returns to Charleston for a second season. He played collegiate soccer at the University of Mobile.
Griffith comes to the Battery from the Antigua Barracuda.
In Richmond, the Kickers jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead before the Battery pulled one back just before halftime on a impressive run and finish by veteran defender John Wilson. Richmond closed it out with two more goals in the second half.
