Most soccer fans recognize Taylor Twellman either as a MLS player with New England, or a member of the U.S. Men’s National Team. Or perhaps even that “soccer guy on television.” But did you know there was another Twellman with a U.S. MNT history. No he’s not Taylor’s older brother. On March 21, 1982, Tim Twellman was selected to start for the first time in an international friendly against Trinidad & Tobago. He would play the entire 90 minutes. As it turned out, it was his first and last game to wear the U.S. jersey.
His son, Taylor, earned 30 caps for the United States, playing on the national team between 2002 and 2008. He was nominated this year for the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Tim and Taylor are one of three father/son duos to play for the U.S. MNT and the most recent).
The first was James (4 caps, 1 goal in 1930) and George Brown (1 cap in 1957). Second was Harry Keough (19 caps, 1 goal from 1949-57) and his son Ty (8 caps from 1979-80). Harry Keough was a starter on the 1950 U.S. team that upset England 1-0 in the World Cup. The Twellman and the Keough families hail from St. Louis..
