Lou Cioffi, the Knights’ outstanding goalkeeper from 1978-79, is one of five University of Central Florida athletes who have been selected for induction into the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame. Cioffi had 11 career saves, with six shutouts and a career 1.54 goals allowed average. He was the Defensive MVP in 1979 when the Knights won the Sunshine State Conference tournament Championship. Cioffi who attend every UCF men’s soccer game served as the Varsity Club’s first president when established in 2009. He is being inducted as a Distinguished Letterwinner for his major contributions to the athletic program, from personal time, effort and years of continued service….The Sunrise Elite 97/98 Under-15 boys won their second consecutive Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup championship. Sunrise defeated the Chicago Magic (2-0) in the semifinals and then topped Arsenal FC US Academy of California in the championship match in the Cotton Bowl. The championship was decided on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw when Maximilian Krieg scored the decisive goal in the sixth round of kicks. Goalkeeper Daniel Ragoo (Plantation) had two clutch saves in the shootout. Sunrise has also punched its return ticket to this summer’s US Youth Soccer National Championships in Overland Park, Kan., after wrapping up a perfect 7-0 record during the US Youth Soccer National League season….The FC Surge is South Florida’s newest Women’s Premier Soccer League franchise, which will compete in the Sunshine Division of the WPSL against teams from Boca Raton, Miami, Jacksonville and Tampa….Patrick Baker, recently named women’s head coach at Florida Atlantic University, will also serve as a coach and trainer for the Team Boca Soccer Club….Senior Trey Kramer (New Orleans, La/Jesuit HS) is one of four student athletes to received the University of West Florida’s Student-Athlete Leadership Award. Three times in his career he was named Defender of the Week. An environmental science major, he has a cumulative 3.65 GPA…..The 2013 Florida Youth Soccer Annual General Meeting and Workshop will be held August 2-4 at the Omni Hotels & Resorts in Orlando.
