Bria Dixon, a senior forward at Cary High School has been selected as the girls NSCAA/TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Player of the Week (March 13)…..Freshman Cassie Pecht (Mechanicsburg, PA) received both the Most Valuable Player and Newcomer of the Year awards at the Duke women’s annual team banquet. Redshirt junior Kim DeCesare (Massapequa Park, NY), who had a career-high 16 goals, six assists and 38 points was named the Offensive MVP. The MVP Defensive Player award went to Erin Koballa (Wrightsville Beach, NC)…..The Wilmington Hammerheads gave their roster a boost just before opening the 2013 USL PRO season. Canadian goalkeeper Troy Hernandez has rejoined the Hammerheads following his debut season with the Baltimore Blast of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Wilmington also welcomed back 2012 All-USL PRO second team midfielder Bryce Taylor. He played in 24 regular season games last summer for the Hammerheads, scoring five goals with three assists. Wilmington also signed midfielders William Heaney and Arron Patrick for the 2013 season. Heaney and Patrick played with the Hammerheads as tryists with the club during a March preseason Pro Soccer Consulting tour in Turkey. Earlier the Hammerheads re-signed Steven Perry and Wilmington native Cody Arnoux…..The Duke Blue Devils opened their men’s soccer spring season with a 3-0 win over Cincinnati. Freshman Luis Rendon (Richmond, VA) and Sean Davis gave the Blue Devils a 2-0 halftime lead. Sophomore Nick Palodichuk got the third goal with a terrific finish. Palodichuk missed much of the 2012 season with an injury…..Duke junior Laura Weinberg (Durham) has been named to the U.S. Maccabiah Games team and will travel to Jerusalem, Israel in July for the competition…..Wake Forest junior Katie Stengel (Melbourne, FL) has been called up to the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team training camp at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., in mid-April. Georgetown assistant Mike Calabretta has been hired as an assistant coach on Tony da Luz’s staff at Wake Forest University.
