Last fall College of Charleston men’s head soccer coach Ralph Lundy completed his 37th collegiate season as a head coach, 24 of which have been in Charleston. His Cougars moved earned a spot the Division I national rankings, and also earned Lundy his 400th coaching victory…..University of South Carolina women head soccer coach Shelley Smith has signed a four-year contract extension which will keep her coaching the Gamecocks through the 2016 season…..Eric Clark, a senior midfielder at Wando High School (Mt. Pleasant) has been named the NSCAA/TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Player of the Week (April 17) for boys. The boys award the previous year went to Tyler Brazell, a junior midfielder at Brookland-Cayce HS…..Wando High School, ranked #1 in the NSCAA Spring Boys High School national rankings, captured the 2013 Palmetto Cup championship with a 3-0 win over host Brookland-Cayce HS. Erik Clark had a pair of goals in the victory, with the third scored by Steven Mitchell. Warriors goalkeeper John Milligan was credited with the shutout……The University of South Carolina men’s MVP award was presented to senior defender/forward Mike Mangotic (Maumee, Ohio) at the team’s annual awards banquet. He also received the team Defensive MVP award. Junior striker Bradlee Baladez (Mesquite, TX), who signed with FC Dallas of MLS during the offseason, was awarded the Offensive MVP award. The coaches award went to senior defender/midfielder Kevin Stam (Raleigh/Broughton HS)…..Wondo HS boys soccer coach Shilo Tisdale recorded his 150th career victory when his Warriors defeated Stratford, 3-0, in the 2013 Palmetto Cup….Mariana Garcia, a junior forward from Colombia, has been named the top female cadet-student-athlete at The Citadel. Garcia scored 11 of the Bulldogs’ 18 goals last seson, including two in a 4-2 win over eventual SoCon champion Georgia Southern. She leads the school record book in career goals (31), points (67), shots on goal (100 and game-winning goals (11).
