The Richmond Kickers have signed former FC Richmond goalkeeper Ryan Taylor and former Michigan Bucs midfielder Nate Robinson. Taylor, a Midlothian, VA, native, played collegiate soccer at Radford University, where he posted a 0.99 goals allowed average….James Madison freshman Bjarki Oalsteinsson (Iceland) was named Virginia men’s soccer Rookie of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors. Dave Giffard of Virginia Commonwealth was named the VaSID Coach of the Year. Player of the Year was VCU junior Jason Johnson. Johnson was the 2012 Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year……Former George Mason standout Taylor Morgan was selected in the MLS Supplemental Draft and was signed to a contract with Toronto FC. Taylor, a native of Southampton, England, appeared in 50 games for GMU, starting 48, and earned first team All-CAA in 2012……Blacksburg freshman Ashley Meier, a midfielder at Virginia Tech, was named to the United States U-20 WNT for a tournament in La Manga, Spain……George Mason women’s head coach Diane Drake has announced the hiring of Cory Hanks as an assistant coach. He comes to the Patriots from George Washington, where he served as a volunteer assistant coach last season. He is a graduate of James Madison University…..Virginia Tech women’s head coach Chugger Adair has completed his incoming freshmen class with the addition of Jordyn Brock, a midfield/defender from Germantown, MD, and Sarah Phillips from Charlotte, NC, also a midfield/defender….Senior soccer players Ainsley Daigle (Lafayette, La) and Hannah Sackfield (Louisville, KY) were among 13 Washington and Lee University athletes inducted this spring into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. It is the oldest honor society for the liberal arts and sciences and among the oldest undergraduate societies in the United States….Former Radford men’s soccer standout and a member of the Radford Athletics Hall of Fame, Ian Spooner, has been selected for enshrinement into the Big South Conference Hall of Fame. He is currently the women’s head soccer coach at Greensboro College.
