Oak Mountain senior defender Chandler Stroupe, who is headed to UAB in the fall, has been named 2012-2013 Gatorade Alabama Boys Soccer Player of the Year. Stroupe had 13 goals and 12 assists for the state championship runnerup Eagles. Stroupe is the second player from the Oak Mountain program to earn the Gatorade honor. Former UCLA standout Chandler Hoffman won the honor in 2008 and 2009…….The Alabama Youth Soccer Association will host the US Youth Soccer Region III Presidents Cup, June 6-9, 2013, in Decatur. The competition is open for U13-U17 Division I state cup winners. Games will be played at the Jack Allen Soccer Complex. Regional winners will advance to the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup championship, which will be held in Auburndale, FL, July 10-14…..If Mountain Brook girls coach Scott Flowers has a come-back-player-of-the-year award senior defender Jessica Wilson would be a great candidate. She missed the past two high school seasons after tearing the ACL in both of her knees, but came back to help the Spartans to the 2013 AHSAA 6A state championship ….Maha Maarouf scored 44 goals for Baker HS as a senior and has signed to play at the University of South Alabama….Five seniors from Daphne HS boys soccer team have signed to play collegiate soccer in the fall: Will Carpenter (UAH), Tyler Cook (Mississippi College), Tyler Cox (Huntingdon College), Josh Gurvitz (West Alabama) and Sam Seawell (University of the South)…..Sebastian Garcia and Desmond Ibie, teammates at Murphy HS, will extend that relationship as both both signed to play soccer at Huntingdon……Midfielder Lauren Lackey from Randolph School (Huntsville) has been named NSCAA/TopDrawerSoccer.com Girls High School Player of the Week. She finished the season as Randolph’s leading scorer in goals, assists and points. Lackey was selected as MVP for the state tournament and was also chosen to play in the AHSAA All-Star Game in Montgomery……Alabama coach Todd Bramble has added midfielder Mia Jahr, a native of Norway, as the 11th member of the Crimson Tide’s recruiting class for the fall of 2013.
