June will be a busy month for U.S. Soccer national teams.
International friendlies for both the men’s and women’s senior squads, and three important CONCACAF Hexagonal World Cup qualifiers for Jurgen Klinsmann’s men.
Tab Ramos’ Under-20 men will begin action at the FIFA Under-20 men’s World Cup in Turkey.
All this, and Klinsmann must begin preparations for the CONCACAF Gold Cup that begins in early July. That regional championship is important as it qualifies the winner for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
The action actually starts on May 29 with an international friendly against Belgium in Cleveland, OH. The second men’s friendly will be June 2 at Washington’s RFK Stadium against Germany.
This will be the first meeting between the German-born Klinsmann-coached U.S. team and Germany.
June 2 will be a doubleheader day for U.S. soccer as the U.S. women travel to Toronto for an international friendly on that day. The men’s game has a 2:30 pm kickoff and the women’s game starts at 4:30.
The U.S. MNT goes on the road again for its fourth game in the final round of qualifying. The Americans play Jamaica at National Stadium in Kingston on June 7. The U.S. is tied for second in the hexagonal standings, one point behind Honduras.
The last time the U.S. played in Kingston the Americans came home with a 2-1 loss. That was in the CONCACAF semifinal round.
After the Jamaica game, the U.S. finally get back-to-back qualifiers on home soil. The first is against Panama in Seattle, WA, on June 11. The second is against Honduras in Sandy Utah, on June 18.
In mid-month, the U.S. women will host South Korea in a pair of international friendlies. The first is June 15 in Foxborough, MA, and the second on June 20 in Harrison, NJ.
The United States U20s will open U20 World Cup play in Turkey against Spain on June 21. Ramos’ team also has difficult group games against France and Ghana for an international friendly on that day. The men’s game has a 2:30 pm kickoff and the women’s game starts at 4:30.
