Senior forward Wes Carson (Southside HS/Fort Smith) has been selected 2013 Gatorade Boys State Player of the Year for Arkansas….University of Arkansas freshman defender Teni Butler (Chattanooga, Tenn.) has been named Freshman of the Year by the College of Engineering at the University. Butler started 15 of 19 games last fall for the Razorbacks. Arkansas concluded spring play with a 3-1-3 record…..After both Central Arkansas soccer programs experienced record setting seasons, coaches on both teams received job title changes. Derek Nichols and Ryan Webb, assistant coaches for the women’s and men’s programs, respectively, will assume the title of Associate Head Coach moving forward.

Goalkeeper Chris Hubbard (Trinity HS/Louisville, KY) has been selected 2013 Gatorade Boys State Player of the Year for Kentucky….The PDL River City Rovers were eliminated in their first-ever match in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with a 3-1 loss to the Dayton Dutch Lions at the Shelby County Athletic Complex in Louisville….After a very successful April training camp, University of Kentucky junior Arin Gilliland has called back to a second U.S. Under-23 WNT camp in mid-May in Chula Vista, Calif. The Lexington, KY, forward led the Wildcats in scoring a year ago with seven goals and seven assists…..University of Kentucky women’s head coach Jon Lipsitz has added Ian Carry to his coaching staff as an assistant coach….Former Western Kentucky goalkeeper Libby Stout (Louisville) was included in a mid-May U.S. Under-23 WNT training camp in California.

The New Orleans Jesters, playing in the National Premier Soccer League after being a 10-year member of the USL Premier Development League, won their home opener 5-1 over the Houston Hurricanes at Pan Am Stadium. A few local standouts returning to the Jesters roster are: Andrew Tarbell from Mandeville, who is a goalkeeper for the Clemson Tigers, and PJ Kee from New Orleans. Kee, who was a Jesuit High School standout, returns after a three-year absence to the Jesters….Rising senior Angelka Uremovich (Oakville, Ont., Canada) received two awards at the annual University of Louisville All-Sports Banquet. She shares the L-Club Female Leadership Award with Janaye Dzikewich of the Cardinals’ lacrosse team, and shares the CardsCARE Individual Award with Becca Maddock, who plays field hockey at Louisville….Senior forward/midfiielder Ethan Judice (Lafayette HS/Lafayette, La.) has been selected 2013 Gatorade Boys State Player of the Year for Louisiana……University of Louisville men’s head coach Ken Lolla has added former MLS and University of Pennsylvania goalkeeper Danny Capero to his staff as an assistant. Capero comes to Louisville after five years as the goalkeeper coach at Florida Gulf Coast University….LSU junior Natalia Gomez-Junco made history with her two appearances for Mexico against Wales and Portugal at the 2013 Algarve Cup, becoming the first Tiger player to earn an international cap at the senior level. She is a transfer from the University of Memphis where she scored 10 goals over two seasons.

Senior forward/midfielder Nicko Corriveu (Gonzaga College HS/Washington, D.C.) has been selected 2013 Gatorade Boys State Player of the Year for the District of Columbia. The Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year for 2013 is Owings Mills junior midfielder George Campbell, who plays as the McDonogh School….US Soccer, the Delaware Youth Soccer Association, the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association and Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association, will host a national C License Coaching Course in New Castle, Delaware, at the Kirkwood Soccer Club, August 1-4 and August 8-11. This is considered to be a commuter course, but local hotel accommodations are available. Tuition cost for this national course is $750. Registration will close July 1. Rogers will be the first openly gay male athlete to play in a major American professional league…..Navy men’s soccer head coach Dave Brandnt has announced the promotion of Nate Baker to assistant coach after serving a year as a volunteer coach at the U.S. Naval Academy…..University of Maryland men’s soccer received multiple top awards at the second annual Terp Awards presentations. Patrick Mullins, the current MAC Hermann Award winner, received the John W. Guckeyson Male Athlete of the Year Award, and coach Sasho Cirovski was honored as the University’s Male Coach of the Year…..The University of Maryland women’s soccer wrapped up an undefeated 5-0-1 spring season with a 2-2 draw with West Virginia University. Rising sophomores Alexis Prior-Brown (Pasadena, MD) and Ashley Spivey (Sparrows Point, MD) scored for the Terps.

U.S. U-20 MNT coach Tab Ramos has selected University of Louisville freshman midfielder Marlon Hairston, a native of Jackson, Miss, for his squad that will play in the U-21 Toulon Tournament in France at the end of May. Hairston, a high school product of IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, is candidate for the U.S. team that will advance to the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup, June 21-July 13, in Turkey…..Mississippi State closed out its spring soccer season with a 1-1 draw against Southern Mississippi. Elizabeth Sullivan, a senior from Memphis, TN, scored her third goal of the spring in front of a Super Bulldog Weekend capacity crowd at the MSU Soccer Field. MSU closed out an unbeaten spring schedule under new head coach Aaron Gordon…..Senior GK Bethany Roberson (Collierville, TN) has been awarded the 2012-13 American Southwest Conference Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor Award for Mississippi College.

Daniel Withrow is the #3 goalkeeper with the Columbus Crew as an MLS rookie, and Sterling Flunder is in his fourth season with the USL PRO league Pittsburgh Riverhounds…..The US Youth Soccer Region I Championships are returning to Barboursville WV in 2015 and 2016. They were previously held in Barboursville in 2009 and 2010…..The WVUSC Shox U17 girls recently became the first team in West Virginia soccer history to claim a regional league championship when they captured the Region I Colonial League title at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex in Delaware.
