The Fort Lauderdale Strikers and Tampa Bay Rowdies have earned games against Major Soccer League clubs in the third round of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The Strikers won a dramatic penalty shootout (7-6) after a 1-1 draw with Laredo Heat, who played much of the second half and extra time a man down. They are set to host MLS Western Conference leading FC Dallas at Lockhart Stadium on May 28.
The Rowdies advanced by defeating VSI Tampa Bay FC 2-1, and will host the Seattle Sounders FC on May 29 at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg.
Four of the six North American Soccer League clubs advanced to the third round of Cup play.
The Atlanta Silverbacks will travel to Real Salt Lake on May 28 after beating NPSL side Georgia Revolution. The Carolina RailHawks will host the Los Angeles Galaxy for the second consecutive year.
The RailHawks take on the two-time defending MLS champion Galaxy on May 29 at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The other two NASL teams in Open Cup play were beaten in the second round. The San Antonio Scorpions lost 4-3 on penalties to FC Tucson after a 2-2 draw, and Minnesota United was shocked 1-0 by the Des Moines Menace of the USL Premier Development League.

Tampa Bay goalkeeper Diego Restrepo came up big in the first half, turning away a penalty kick by Tony Donatelli to keep the game scoreless.
Fort Lauderdale goalkeeper Matt Glaeser also came up with a pair of saves in the penalty kick shootout against the PDL Heat.
Despite playing a man down for the last 24 minutes of regulation, Laredo got the equalizer with seven minutes to go to force overtime.
Glaeser got his first save in the seventh round of kicks, and then saved the next one to set the stage for Toni Stahl’s kick that sealed advancement in the shootout’s eighth round of kicks.
The Tampa Bay Rowdies are currently tied with the Carolina RailHawks for the NASL lead with 11 points each, one more than the Atlanta Silverbacks.
