The Vanderbilt University women’s soccer team spent eight days in May on a trip to Brazil. Much of the activity was centered around Rio de Janeiro, including training sessions, cultural activities and two exhibition games against local club teams….The University of Memphis is moving to a new conference, the American Athletic Conference, and will have some new conference opponents, but some men’s rivalries will continue, including AAC games with Louisville and Cincinnati in 2013. This marks the fourth different conference in which the Tigers and the Bearcats have met as league opponents. Richie Grant’s Tigers will open the season on the road in California against CSU Fullerton on August 30 and will play CSU Northridge on Sept. 1 at the Northridge Tournament. First home match in Memphis will be Sept. 6 against the University of Missouri Kansas City…..Carson-Newman has added three players to its women’s recruiting list for the fall of 2013, brining the total recruits to an even dozen. Forward Kendall Morrison (White House, TN), a four-year all-district player from White House High School, has signed with the Eagles, as has midfielder Aubree Cable (Battle Creek, Mich.). The third is striker Susann Kneifel from Schkeuditz, Germany….The fourth signee of the 2013-14 East Tennessee State women’s soccer class is Cecilia Re from Milan, Italy. She has 13 caps with Italy’s U-17 national team and 18 with the U-19 squad. She has played five times with Italy’s U-20 team, earning caps against Nigeria and South Korea in the 2012 FIFA U-20 World Cup….Lipscomb’s women wrapped up their spring season with a 3-1 record, winning three times after opening with a 1-0 loss to Vanderbilt….The Martin Methodist women’s program added Catherine Horton, a 5-9 center back from Clarksville, TN, to the RedHawks’ recruiting class for the fall of 2013…….For the second straight year senior midfielder Kerri Reid (Peachtree City, GA/McIntosh HS) was named MVP at Tennessee Tech.
