The United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) has announced the draw for the National Amateur Championship, that will determine the nation’s best amateur soccer team.
The National Amateur Championship, the first championship of its kind, will be ushered in during the U.S. Soccer Federation’s Centennial year, taking place Friday, May 24 through Sunday, May 26 at Macpherson Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The draw determined the opening day games on May 24 and will feature the home-standing Carolina Dynamo of the USL Premier Development League facing the Battery Park Gunners from Boston, the defending USASA Amateur Cup champions.
The opening game at 5:30 pm will be between the reigning USASA Open Cup champion Croatian Eagles (Milwaukee, Wis.) against the NPSL’s FC Sonic (Allentown, PA).
The winning team will be awarded the Hank Steinbrecher trophy, which the USASA named in honor of the former Secretary General of U.S. Soccer and National Soccer HOF member.
Steinbrecher, who will attend the tournament and present the championship trophy, has ties to N.C., having coached at both Warren Wilson College and Appalachian State University. He is also a member of the N.C. Soccer Hall of Fame.
