Any thoughts of having veteran defender Steve Cherundolo for the final round of World Cup qualifiers took a hit when it was announced that he needs to have a second arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. The announcement was made by his Bundesliga club Hannover, where he serves as team captain. The 34-year old had the same knee operated on last February.
Cherundolo played in only 20 games last season, but set a new club record for Bundesliga career appearances with 300. He has not played for the U.S. MNT since October 2012.
