The Charleston Battery will play England’s Portsmouth F.C. in an international exhibition on Wednesday, July 27 at Blackbaud Stadium. This marks the second consecutive year that the Battery has hosted an English team. Last July the Battery played the Bolton Wanderers in front of a sold out crowd of 5,249. Sheridan was also named the W-League’s Player of the Week at the end of May after posting three shutouts for the Toronto Lady Lynx, all recorded on the road……Riverside High School’s longtime girls soccer coach Terry Archenhold has retired…Spartanburg High midfielder Ralph Polson III has been named the Herald-Journal/GoUpstate Preps Boys Soccer Player of the Year. He earned all-state and Clash of the Carolinas selection after scoring 10 goals with nine assists as a senior. He is headed to Wofford in August where he will play collegiate soccer for his father, Ralph Polson, Jr……Two former Clemson Tigers have been named to the U.S. Men’s National Team for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup. Stuart Holden and Oguchi Onyewu are on U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s roster. Holden played at Clemson in 2003 and 2004 and was second-team All-ACC in his second season. Onyewu played for Clemson in the 2000 and 2001 seasons and was named Soccer America MVP team in 2001, the year he was selected a NSCAA All-America……Coastal Carolina goalkeeper Scott Angevine calls Kansas City, Kan., home and he has long dreamed of playing soccer in Sporting Park. He had hoped to be playing for the home team, but his dream came true earlier this year playing on the other side of the field. Angevine was in goal for the Des Moines Menace when they lost a 2013 U.S. Open Cup game to Sporting, 2-0.
