Alan Hernandez Was First Stall HS Player In North-South Classic

Over the 17 years of the North-South Classic all-star games, results in the girls games have been relatively even. In fact, the South now has one more win than the North.

Wando’s Hannah Ross provided the goal that gave her South team a 2-1 win. It came 75 seconds into stoppage time at Charleston’s Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island.

But the North got the equalizer in the 77th minute. Clover’s Naomi Matley assisted on the tying goal by J.L. Mann’s Elizabeth Oliver.

The game looked like a sure draw when Ross got loose on a brerakaway to slot in the winning goal. That gave the South an 8-7-2 advantage in the series.

Fitzhugh and Matley were the MVP selections for the South and North, respectively.

The North dominated the South in the boys nightcap, posting a 19-10 shots advantage in carving out a 3-1 victory.

The North went up 1-0 in the 42nd minute. Gaffney’ Victory Ramirez headed in a service from Blythewood’s Quenten Howard to break the scoreless deadlock.

Wren’s Sam Moss made it 2-0 17 minutes later, and Nick Retter extended it to the final 3-0 with the last North goal.

Jonathan Glenn of Academic Magnet scored the South’s only goal. It came off an assist by Alan Hernandez of Stall HS. Hernandez is the first Stall player to ever be selected for the North-South Classic.

The win was the first for the North all-stars since 2009, and the North leads the series 15-8-2

MVPs for the boys game were Howard for the North and Waccamaw’s Noah Gulley for the South.
