T.L Hanna’s Chelsea Drennan and Cardinal Newman’s Koty Millard have been named Players of the Year by SCSoccer.com for girls and boys, respectively. The senior midfielders headline the 2013 Super XXII Teams, selected for the 14th consecutive season.
Both have signed to play collegiate soccer at the University of South Carolina.
Millard has also been named Elite Soccer Report (ESR) Spring National Player of the Year. A member of the ESR 2012-13 Boys Soccer Spring All-America First Team, the midfielder highlighted the 11-man group as the spring national player of the year. The ESR teams were selected after consultation with media members and coaches from the nation’s spring-playing states.
Millard’s 26 goals and 20 assists led Cardinal Newman to a 20-6-2 season. The honoree led his team to a state championship, netting a hat trick in the final game.
Earlier this spring, the midfielder was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for South Carolina. He is also a member of the U.S. Soccer U-18 Men’s National Team player pool.
Millard stands alone in the country as the only player named a High School All-American, a Youth All-American (for club play with South Carolina United) and a Scholar-Athlete All-American in 2012 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Drennan was named South Carolina’s Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year.
She scored 39 goals with 16 assists in her senior season at T.L. Hanna, leading the Rams (17-4) to the Class 4A state quarterfinals. She is a two-time South Carolina Coaches Association Class 4A state Player of the Year.
She concluded her prep soccer career with 115 total goals and 55 assists. She graduated with a 4.8 grade point average.
