The Atlanta Fire United Soccer Association has announced the hiring of Carlos Parra as the Girls Director of Coaching. Parra comes to Atlanta after serving as the Technical Director for Weston FC in Florida, where he originally was hired as the Boys Director of Coaching in 2005. Thi[show_disconnected][show_to accesslevel=’Subscriber’]s is his second time to be affiliated with the Atlanta Fire, as he served as an Elite Program Staff Coach for the club from 2005-2007…..Alpharetta’s Jack McInerney, 20, the leading scorer for the Philadelphia Union and Major League Soccer, was named to his first senior men’s national training when picked for the 23-player Gold Cup roster. McInerney did not get in any of the three group games, and is still looking for his first international cap. U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann made four changes in his team after the group phase, brining in four starters from the regular senior team, and McInerney was one of the four players returned to his club team….Former Berry College standout Mark Bloom has signed a contract with Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC. Bloom had been playing for the Atlanta Silverbacks of the North American Soccer League, which won the league’s spring season. Bloom played for Berry from 2006-2008, and head coach Richard Vardy calls him “one of the most talented players we’ve had at Berry.”……Georgia Southern has named assistant coach Brian Dunleavy the new women’s head soccer coach. He replaces former head coach Lindsey Vanderspiegel, who resigned to become the new head coach at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dunleavy was an assistant on her staff for two seasons…..Georgia’s 2012-13 Gatorade Georgia Boys Soccer Player of the Year Salomon Lorenzano will begin his collegiate soccer career at Georgia State when preseason workouts begin in August. Lorenzano led the McIntosh Chiefs to a perfect regular season and a Georgia state championship, while scoring 24 goals with 28 assists as a senior. He was named MVP of the 2012 Georgia Soccer Coaches Association All-Star Game…Savannah College of Arts & Design men’s coach Tom Melville has signed German freshman Oliver Knoch. He is the first German player to sign with SCAD.
