A year ago it looked as though U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper Brad Guzan was going to be without options if he wanted to continue playing in England[show_disconnected][show_to accesslevel=’Subscriber’]. He was out of contract, and Aston Villa didn’t offer to re-sign him. Then a managerial change at Villa turned things around. The club decided to re-sign him to a new contract and shortly there after he won the starting job from Irishman Shay Given, appeared in 36 games and was named the Villa Player of the Year.
His reward was a new four-year contract through the end of the 2016-17 season.
“It’s always nice when you’re wanted by a club,” said Guzan, a former University of South Carolina standout who is the USA’s #2 goalkeeper. “I’ve had some good years here at Aston Villa and to be able to commit my future just puts a smile on my face.”
