Robert J. Peterson, 43, girls soccer coach at state champion Green Hope High School, has resigned his teaching and coaching positions after being arrested for possessing child pornography. He faces six counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. The Raleigh News & Observer reported that according to arrest warrants, police investigators determined that Peterson had six computer images showing unknown girls whose ages were estimated to be as young as three and as old as 11. He has also coached girls teams in the Capital Area Soccer League, but was not scheduled to work with CASL this coming year….Elon men’s coach Darren Powell has added Brazilian sophomore transfer Caue Da Silva to his recruiting class from Delta State University…..UNC Wilmington women’s coach Paul Cairney has added veteran goalkeeper coach John Adams to his staff….Two-time defending NCHSAA Class 4A boys soccer champion Green Hope has a new coach. Michael Hoy, who coached with CASL for two years following a professional playing career with the Real Maryland Monarchs of the United Soccer Leagues, has been named the program’s third head coach in the last three seasons. He replaces Richard Huxford, who went 24-2 and won the state championship in his only season. His team won the 2012 title after losing all of the starters from the previous season, when Andrew Chadwick retired after winning the 2011 title in his 10th season with the school……N.C. State men’s coach Kelly Findley added three newcomers ahead of the 2013 season. Joining the Wolfpack are Davis Robinson (Cary), Jonathan Davis (Gastonia) and Davi Ramos (Recife, Brazil) raising the fall recruiting class to eight. Ramos played high school soccer in Fayetteville at Fayetteville Academy…..Former UNC W goalkeeper Brad Knighton has been named MLS Player of the Week after leading Vancouver to a pair of key results, a draw against Sporting Kansas City and a 2-0 shutout over rival Seattle. Knighton, a native of Hickory, played high school soccer at Richmond’s Mills Godwin HS.
