The Ocala Stampede captured the USL Premier Development League’s Southeast Division championship without even playing a game. The division is comprised of seven Florida-based PDL teams and the Mississippi Brilla.
The Stampede took the title, and a berth in postseason play, for the second consecutive season with the help of VSI Tampa Bay FC.
Ocala held a two-point lead against the Panama City Beach Pirates entering the final day of the regular season, and having completed their schedule, they had to look on as the Pirates visited Tampa Bay.
VSI’s Andres Navas and Josey Portillo each scored to deny the Pirates the win they needed to finish first in regular season play. That allowed Ocala to finish on top of the standings.
Both Ocala and Panama City advanced to the playoffs.
The Orlando City U23s finished third in the division, missing postseason play, followed by VSI Tampa Bay FC.
In order, the bottom slots in the final standings were the Mississippi Brilla, IMG Academy Bradenton, SW Florida Adrenaline and Fort Lauderdale Schulz Academy.
Schulz Academy finished last in the standings with a 0-13-0 record.
