Among the finalists for the 2013 individual W-League regular season honors are three nominees from the Virginia Beach Piranhas, the most named from any W-League team.
Virginia Beach’s Shan Jones is nominated for both the MVP award and Rookie of the Year, along with Emily Gielnik of the Ottaway Fury[show_disconnected][show_to accesslevel=’Subscriber’].
Jones led the league in scoring this past season.
Ashley Nicks from the Pali Blues is the third MVP finalist, and Kristen Hamilton from the Colorado Rapids Women and Savannah Jordan from the Atlanta Silverbacks are also in the running for Rookie of the Year.
The three Coach of the Year finalists are Tracey Kevins (LA Strikers), Sid van Druenen (Dayton Dutch Lions) and Cindy Walsh (Laval Comets).
Blakely Mattern is one of four nominees for Defender of the Year.
The former USC Gamecocks defensive standout, who plays for the Carolina Elite Cobras, is joined by Kathryn Acton (Laval Comets), Danielle Johnson (Bay Area Breeze) and Brooke Spence (Colorado Rapids Women).
Nominees for Goalkeeper of the Year are Elizabeth Hull (Carolina Elite Cobras), Lauren Vetock (Virginia Beach Piranhas), Erin McNulty (Seattle Sounders Women) and Genevieve Richard (Laval Comets).
Six of the nominees will be participating in the 2013 W-eague Championship in Bradenton, FL. The awards will be presented at the annual Awards Banquet at the finals at IMG Academy.
