Ground was broken earlier this summer for a new soccer/baseball facility in Ashburn, and the Virginia Calvary FC are making plans to take the field for the first time in 2014 as a member of the North American Soccer League.
The new team is based in Loudoun County, 30 miles west of Washington, D.C.
While building a roster will not begin until the winter break, it has been reported that Mark Simpson, the club’s Director of Operations, has already sifted through over 400 emails from prospective players and coaches.
Simpson, 47, a former D.C. United goalkeeper, in his DOO role, will serve as the Calvary’s General Manager and Technical Director.
The Calvary expects to field the team when the NASL opens the spring half of its split season in April of next year.
