The Furman Paladins were the coaches pick to win the Southern Conference men’s championship. Coach Doug Allison’s team received five first-place votes. The other first place vote went to defending SoCon champion Elon, second in the preseason poll[show_disconnected][show_to accesslevel=’Subscriber’].
Furman was 12-4-3 a year ago, finishing second in the regular season. Elon went 15-5-4 in 2012.
Georgia Southern was picked to finish third, followed by UNC Greensboro. Appalachian State, Wofford and Davidson completed the last three spots.
The Paladins placed forward Tyler Peoples and midfielders Michael Gandier and Martin Ontivers on the preseason all-conference team.
The Phoenix were represented by forward Matt Wescoe, midfielder Daniel Lovitz and goalkeeper Nathan Dean on the preseason squad.
The Georgia Southern Eagles were represented by midfielder Hunter Norton and defender Reed Norton, while Aaron Reifschneider made the preseason all-conference team from UNC Greensboro.
ASU Mountaineer defender Harrison Debridge and Terrier forward Carlos Dominguez Gonzalez completed the all-conference team.
