The West Alabama Tigers are off to a 3-1-1 Gulf South Conference start and 5-1-1 overall, and are ranked #25 in the most recent NSCAA Division II men’s national soccer rankings.
The Tigers are third in the Gulf South Conference standings, behind conference leader Shorter (5-0-0) and West Florida (4-1-0)[show_disconnected][show_to accesslevel=’Subscriber’].
West Alabama’s Thibault Charmey, a sophomore from France, scored two goals and an assist against Alabama Huntsville and earned his second GSC Player of the Week honor this season.
West Florida goalkeeper Frederik Bruhn (Denmark) gave up a goal each in two matches for the Argos, a 4-1 win over Alabama Huntsville and a 1-0 loss to Union University.
Unbeaten Valdosta State, ranked #21 nationally, tops the GSC women’s standings 3-0-2 in league play and 5-0-2 overall. North Alabama is in fourth place with a 1-1-1 league record.
Valdosta State swept the women’s Athlete of the Week honors. Lauren Hale (Macon, Ga.) was named Defender of the Week and Blakely McClellan (Tifton, Ga.) was selected Player of the Week.
Hale anchored the Valdosta State defense that allowed only three goals in two matches with GSC opponents. She helped VSU to a 2-2 draw with Delta State, which went through double overtime, and a 2-1 win over Christian Brothers.
