A-Sun Conference

Florida Gulf Coast (6-3-1) and Mercer (6-4-1) are the first two teams to reach six victories in 2014. They, along with Kennesaw State and Stetson are 1-0 in league play.
FGCU’s Tabby Tindell and USC Upstate’s Sarah Plantz, received the latest offensive and defensive awards, rspectively. Tindell had four goals in win over Idaho State. Plantz recorded back-to-back shutouts.

Tampa Opens With Seven W’s

The University of Tampa Spartans, ranked #5 nationally among NCAA Division II women’s soccer programs is off to a perfect 7-0 start.
The season began with five consecutive shutouts, including a 2-0 win over #14 Lenoir-Rhyne University.
In every run there are close games, and Tampa had one of those against Sunshine Conference opponent Barry. Junior Jenny Karl (New Port Richey, Fla.) got the game winner just 2:40 into overtime, when he knocked in a rebound off a shot by Cici Gonzalez (Lutz, Fla.).
Those two goals by the Buccaneers are the only ones allowed through the first seven games, while scoring 33. Gabby Russo (Middleton, Mass.) leads the Spartans in scoring with 16 points on six goals and four assists, while Gonzlez has scored five goals.

Big South Conference

Radford and Winthrop both have opened their 2014 seasons 4-1-1, while Liberty is 5-3-0. All Big South results to date have come in non-conference play.
High Point junior forward Sarah Sermonet scored the game-winner in a 1-0 win over East Carolina and she was named Big South Attacking Player of the Week. The defensive award also went to a HPU Panther, with goalkeeper Jesse May’s 103:12 scoreless minutes aganst the Pirates.

South Atlantic Conference

Lincoln Memorial at 3-0 leads the SAC women’s standings, while Wingate is 2-0-1 in second. Overall, the two leaders are 9-2-0 and 7-1-0, respectively.
The recent Player of the Week award was shared by goalkeepers: Wingate’s Ashlyn Hardle and Tusculum’s Marissa Williams. Hardie had shutouts against Lees-McRae (2-0) and 0-0 with defending champion Lenoir-Rhyne.
