High Point played outside the Big South and came away with a 1-1 draw at West Virginia, but came back to league play and dropped a 1-0 decision to Winthrop.
Liberty won its third straight match, a 3-0 win over Howard and a 3-1 win over Presbyterian. Despite going 0-2-0, VI got career-firsts from a pair of players. Junior defender Max Farinholt scored his first career goal in a 3-1 loss at Longwood, and Travis Borkey scored his first career goal in a 2-1 loss to Gardner-Webb. Longwood is second in the standings with a 4-0-1 record. Freshman Ben Ferrell scored one of the goals in the win over VMI and has now recprded at least one point in each of the last five games. Ferrell leds the tem with thee goals and a pair of assists for eight total points. Gardner-Webb’s Denzel Clarke picked up his second Big South Attacking Player of the Week award for scoring a hat trick in a win over Wofford. Winthrop GK Guilherme Avelar was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week.
He had 11 saves in posting a pair of shutouts.
