The U.S. WNT won its sixth straight game and stayed unbeaten (11-0-2) this year with a 4-0 win over Australia in front of 19,109 fans at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX. Lauren Holiday and Carli Lloyd scored the game’s first two goals on first-time shots from the top of the box for a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the game.
Abby Wambach scored her 162nd career goal early in the second half and Christin Press got the fourth goal in stoppage time. U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo made five saves in recording her 67th career shutout. She now trails all-time leader Briana Scurry who had 71 shutouts from 1994-2008. The USA earned its seventh shutout this year and has out-scored its past three opponents by a 16-0- margin. The U.S. women are on a 36-game unbeaten streak going back to a 1-0 loss to Japan on March 5, 2012 in the Algarve Cup. They have not lost at home in 74 games.
