From 1907-1930, arguably the most successful soccer club in America was Bethlehem Steel FC. Many of its players held “day jobs” with the sponsoring Steel company.
Bethlehem Steel won five Challenge Cup (US Open Cup) titles, and was the six-time American Cup champion.
The team folded after the 1930 spring season as the Great Depression financially devastated the (ASL) league and Bethlehem Steel FC.
The Major League Soccer Philadelphia Union has a uniform that honors the history of Bethlehem Steel FC. It is primarily black with white trim and has a Union emblem and a Bethlehem Steel FC tag.
